“Today, I want to share with you a simple idea that seeks to uplift all of us together.”
Globally, women are still struggling to achieve gender equality in all aspects of life. In some parts of the world, women can still be denied the right to drive, the right to a life free of violence or the right to have a say in who they marry.
Last year, under the leadership of Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the head of UN Women, an initiative to unite the world against gender inequality was launched. The #HeForShe campaign invites both men and women to stand in solidarity with each other to help create a more equal and accepting world. In her TED Talk, Elizabeth Nyamayaro, the inventor of the #HeForShe Twitter campaign, extends a hand to all members of the global community, asking them to join the growing movement. She says, “This is an invitation for those who believe in equality for women and men, and those who don’t yet know that they believe.”
