Sex-toy entrepreneur Brian Sloan has launched an online beauty competition to crown the world’s most beautiful vagina (or really, more accurately, the world’s most beautiful vulva… but that’s another issue). Sloan plans to use 3D scanning to replicate the winners for use in a new sex toy, but he claims he also wants to give “the women who enter a new-found vagina confidence.” Each of the entrants, who range from sex workers to students, has their private parts scanned and evaluated by a team of judges.
In an article in British GQ, Nichi Hodgson questions whether the competition is objectification, or truly an ego-booster like Sloan purports. In the end, she decides that it is at least slightly feminist thanks to the parity of Sloan hosting an upcoming best scrotum competition.
Do you think it’s feminist?
