TOMS and Malala Yousafzai Are Teaming Up to Get Every Girl in School

It’s only fitting that one of our favorite socially conscious companies and one of our favorite women’s rights activists are teaming up.

That’s right, TOMS Shoes and Malala Yousafzai are working together in an exciting – and important – partnership.

After hearing Malala speak at a conference, TOMS’ Social Entrepreneurship Manager Sofi Newmyer started thinking about how to involve the amazing young woman in TOMS’ work to give back. The Malala Fund, founded by the young Nobel Prize winner and her father to support girls’ education, was the perfect fit—and so, the Malala Fund x TOMS scarf was born.

All proceeds from the colorful scarf, which features the profound Malala quote “One child, one teacher, and one pen can change the world,” will go directly to the Malala Fund in support of their work to ensure girls receive 12 full years of education and learn the value of their voices.

Girls around the world are kept away from the educations they deserve because they face financial barriers, live in communities where they face danger, can’t access a safe or nearby school, and are likely to be married or working at a young age. “Through this partnership,” TOMS’ Newmyer says, “more girls around the world will receive free, safe and quality education.”

Girls who receive an education are empowered not only to change their own futures, but to enact change in their communities. Support this courageous and impactful work; stand with TOMS as they stand #withMalala.
