India’s women’s cricket team is preparing to play against Bangladesh in the World T20 this March. However, this isn’t just any competition for the team. Mithali Raj, the captain of India’s women’s team, thinks that if they win the World T20 in the spring, there is a potential for a women’s IPL team.
The IPL is the Indian Premiere League, which is India’s top T20 cricket league and the most watched in the world. (T20 or Twenty20 is a short form of cricket played in two innings between two teams). Raj thinks that it’s extremely possible for India to welcome a women’s IPL team, especially due to how successful the IPL already is and how skilled her team is. Her main concern is gaining enough popularity and support regarding the idea. Raj, who spoke about the future of her team at a press conference, said, “This is the ideal time to lift the women’s cricket in the country and I think IPL is the best platform.”
