The common thought that “there’s an app for everything” proves to be more and more true everyday. There are smartphone applications dedicated to helping you shop, stay healthy, and get organized. But now, the Companion app is dedicated to helping you stay safe.
Women all around the world have been in the situation: You’re walking home after a late night, it’s dark outside, and you can feel your heart rate starting to increase. It’s not that you feel unsafe…You’ve walked through this part of town many times before to get home. However, you wish you had a friend to keep you company. That’s where the technology comes in: The Companion app allows a friend to virtually escort you home.
Here’s how it works: You find a friend who’s not busy, you send them a link, and they track your progress as you make your way back home. If the app notices you have strayed off your path, fallen, or been pushed, it will alert the individual walking you home. You then have 15 seconds to push the “I’m okay” button. However, if you’re not okay, the loud alarm system is set off to scare away criminals, and your companion is notified.
This app is a great way to make sure you never have to walk home alone again. The feelings of anxiety while walking home on a dark street can soon disappear, knowing you have a friend virtually walking alongside you. The app is available for download on both iPhones and Androids.
