For Women’s History Month, MTV put out a video explaining why there isn’t also a Men’s History Month.
The women in the video state that it would be redundant to have one, considering that there are several days set aside during the year dedicated to celebrating men in the past, while many people are still unable to identify significant contributions made by women historically. Meanwhile, the history of women’s oppression and institutionalized sexism are problems men never had to face.
The video hits the biggest point that feminists across the world have been sharing for years: “Women’s History Month isn’t about taking anything away from men.” Instead, it is simply women asking for one month to highlight the achievements of women throughout time.
