The Global Media Monitoring Project’s 2015 Findings Show Eye-Opening Gender Inequality

The Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) is known for its extensive research focusing on gender in the world’s media. The organization recently released its 2015 report, gathering data from 114 countries. Some of the statistics are extremely eye-opening, revealing the high amount of gender inequality in the media.

For example, only around one in four people heard or read about in the media are women. When it comes to the reporting of news, only 37% of stories, television, and radio newscasts are reported by women. This report reminds people how important it is for women to raise their voice and be heard.

UN Women issued out a press release, in which they provided a breakdown of the highlights of the report and emphasized the importance of this research.
