The Feminist Library in London may have to shut its doors at the beginning of March of it cannot afford the rent hike being posed by the Southwark Council.
The library will have to pay £30,000, an increase that more than doubles the current £12,000, or else be evicted.
The library has launched a petition requesting that the council retract the eviction notice and instead work with them to gradually increase the rent. The petition already has over 9000 signatures of its 10,000 signature goal.
The community is desperate to save the library because it contains over 7,000 works of historical feminist literature which have been used by students for research and to educate the community for 30 years.
