Sexism in journalism isn’t a new thing. With the majority of publications having only one-third of their newsrooms staffed with women, it’s no surprise that femalesĀ see fewer promotions as well as way fewer bylines.
The New York Times, considered one of the most historic newspapers in the world and the gold standard for journalism, is one of the worst offenders. A little hope? This past Friday, the front page of the Times had more female reporters with bylines than men.
Is there still a long way to go? You bet. But is this a solid place to start? Absolutely.
