It’s October which means it’s time for sexy prisoners, fire fighters, and nurses. Last year we chronicled a few of the worst offenders on our blog.
This year we’re asking you to get involved. Each time you see a ridiculous sexy Halloween costume for sale put it on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with #NotWearingIt and tag HelloFlo. We’ll be sharing the best on this blog and in our social channels.
We’re not interested in calling out women who wear these costumes. If you want to be sexy, we’re happy you’re making that choice and that you have that choice. What we’re hoping to do is highlight the pressure that we all face to always look sexy even on a holiday that once stood for fun and silly.
In a discussion about this topic Rachel Sklar, founder of The Li.st said “There is a difference between a world in which women are free to choose any path and a world where women are depicted within a narrow band limiting their choice to being one-dimensional sexualized object.” We’re hoping this campaign will shed some light on how limited our choices have become.
