Hayden Panettiere Opens Up About Postpartum Depression

Last month Hayden Panettiere spoke candidly on Live! With Kelly and Michael about her struggle with postpartum depression. Throughout her interview she explained how she never had any explicitly negative feelings towards her child, but was still very much struggling.

Panettiere stated: “I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you’re told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”

Panettiere has taken steps towards personal healing by entering a rehab facility voluntarily. According to the CDC, anywhere between 8-19% of women report experiencing postpartum depression after childbirth, with the symptoms ranging from having negative feelings towards your baby to the inability of sleeping.

Hopefully by sharing her story, Panettiere is inspiring other women to seek help if they need it and to know that they are not alone.
