It’s back to school time, which means it’s time for some new art for your walls!
Whether it’s your bedroom, your dorm room, or your brand new living room (what up post-grad), what better way to celebrate women, feminism, and the human body than to display it on your walls! Here are five artists you may not have heard of who are deserve to be celebrated!
Yaycake
Why She’s Awesome:
I was first drawn to Yaycake (aka Grace Yang) because of her incredible ability to capture genitalia. From orange and blue vulvas to eggplant-colored penises, Grace will not let you down. My personal favorite of hers is the fruit-covered uterus. Bonus: Yaycake does commissioned portraits of your genitalia, so if you’ve always wanted a gorgeous painting of your vulva, she’s the artist for you!
You can find her work here and here. To purchase her art contact her here.
Remy Holwick
Why She’s Awesome:
You may have heard of Remy because she runs a secret women’s society in New York that is fighting the good fight against rape culture. You may not know that she is a film photographer that specializes in the human body, specifically those belonging to women (both trans and cis). In a world that often shies away from the bodies of trans women, it is exciting to see these bodies as beautiful works of art. You can find her work here and here. To purchase her art contact her for availability.
Quinne Myers
Why She’s Awesome:
Quinne is first and foremost a textile designer for lingerie. She designs adorable patterns for her underwear and runs a indie loungewear company, she and reverie. She also has a beautiful line of illustrations inspired by “astrology, mythology, psychology, and the ways woman connect ourselves to the world.” If that doesn’t, do it for you, she has a rainbow-haired female unicorn centaur and that is certainly worth hanging on your wall. You can find her work here.
Rachel Thalia Fisher
Why She’s Awesome:
Rachel’s photography is breathtaking. It is beautiful, intriguing, and completely unpredictable. Her photography makes me feel things in every inch of myself, and who doesn’t want that kind of art on their walls. Bonus: her photos are also available on iphone cases, shirts, mugs, and more! You can purchase her art here and find more of her here.
Penelopi Jones
Why She’s Awesome:
Okay, so you can’t exactly put Penelopi’s art on your wall, but hear me out. Penelopi Jones is the creator of the greatest piece of art in existence, the clitoring. The clitoring is exactly what it sounds like, a ring shaped like a clitoris and wow, is it beautiful. The clitoring comes in multiple metals and is also available as a pendant and as a print on hip hugger panties. You can purchase the clitoring here.
