Can you say whoa? Two women graduated from the Army’s Ranger School, which trains military personnel to become part of an elite force. Allowing women to try out for and then complete the program is a big step. The change comes as part of an initiative where the military is seeking out new ways to allow women to join its ranks at any level.
However, before we get too excited, it’s important to remember that there are still several other parts of our forces that women are still not allowed to even try out for, like the 75th Ranger Regiment, an even more prestigious group in the army. Additionally, even though these women have achieved something that less than 3% of their male peers have, they still won’t be able to fight in combat due to age-old rules barring women from participating in certain “kinds” of warfare.
Despite the setbacks, this is the start of something great. Hats of to these two brave women for starting to crack a glass ceiling that goes back centuries!
