Over the past year of so, you may have heard of Elvie ($199), the device that helps you do your Kegel exercises and get your pelvic floor into tip-top shape. The tiny gadget (small enough to rest on a spoon) is meant to be used regularly and syncs via Bluetooth to your phone. You can download an app that takes you through “training exercises” for your pelvic floor once you’ve (temporarily) inserted the device. Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, right?
Writer Elisa Strauss decided to see what all the hype was about and used Elvie for three minutes per day for three weeks, hoping to see what it could do for her (especially since she recently had a baby). Strauss was pleasantly surprised to find that doing her training exercises started to make bladder control easier and also made her sex life better.
Above all though, Strauss says her biggest takeaway of using Elvie had nothing to do with the device itself: “My favorite result is the way working out with Elvie has stripped some of the mystery from my vagina.”
Even if you don’t have the near-$200 to buy Elvie, we can all make a promise to ourselves to do our Kegels regularly, and on a larger scale, stop being afraid to see what’s going on with our lady parts.
