This Tuesday, history was made in the United States military: It was announced that Diana M. Holland would be the 76th Commandant of Cadets, the first woman to ever hold the position. In this position, she will “oversee discipline and training for [West Point’s] approximate 4,200 cadets.”
Holland is no stranger to West Point. She graduated from the Academy back in 1990 and has previously taught there in more recent years. Holland has served in various locations since her graduation, including Germany, Iraq, North Carolina, and Georgia. In a statement, she said that she is “honored” and feels that it is a “privilege to be part of the team that trains and develops leaders of character for our Army.” Holland will begin serving in her new position come January 5th, 2016.
