Here’s some sad news for all of my fellow carb lovers out there.
Studies are showing that high glycemic foods (like candy, white potatoes, carrots, and peas) can cause lung cancer. When you eat high glycemic foods, your body produces extra insulin to process the sugar. With the higher levels of insulin in your body, there is an increase in proteins (insulin growth factors), which can possibly cause lung cancer.
In this particular study, researchers found that when people’s diet consisted of mostly high glycemic foods, they increased their risk for lung cancer by 49%. Scary stuff.
Some good alternative foods to eat that have a low glycemic index? Nuts, legumes, oats, and dairy can do the trick.
