Skincare isn’t just for acne-battling teenagers; everyone can benefit from a good skincare routine! In order to make it through life fresh-faced and acne scar-free, we have to add some changes into our day-to-day lives.
Lifestyle changes sounds like a lot of work, but actually these four easy adjustments won’t take too much effort to incorporate into your everyday life.
1. Take Action
If you notice acne flaring up or your skin becoming more irritated than usual, don’t wait for it to go away on it’s own. Do something about it! Waiting can cause scars to form. Instead try a home remedy, like toothpaste, or consult a dermatologist. A little effort in the beginning can help save a lot of time in the end.
2. Don’t Do the Three P’s
Poking, prodding, and popping are the three worst things you can do for acne or other skin problems. This is the leading cause for acne scars, and it can even cause more issues! When you pop a pimple, the bacterium that was trapped in your pores becomes exposed to the surrounding pores, and it may become entrapped in them. This is why you usually see acne showing up right next to or around old acne spots.
3. Eat Healthier
If you eat foods high in carbs, such as pasta, bread and potatoes, you are at higher risk for skin problems. Try substituting with protein or veggies like nuts, eggs, carrots or leafy greens. Water is also a miracle worker in the world of acne fighting. Drinking the appropriate amount of water everyday (a minimum of 2/3 your body weight in ounces) can help keep your pores tight and keep bacteria out.
4. Maintain a Skincare Routine
Using a facial scrub at least twice a week, a daily cleanser, and either going into a steam room or taking a steamy shower once a week will prevent future breakouts and clean out existing ones. Be sure not to overdo it with the facial scrub because that can actually cause dryness, irritation, or more acne. Using a moisturizer in the morning and before bed can help keep skin tight and soft after all of the treatments. Plus it can prevent wrinkles.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Keeping it happy and healthy doesn’t take too much work, but the difference can be incredible. Helping maintain clean facial skin and reducing acne will help prevent other issues that are common for the skin like wrinkles, sunspots and dimples.
