In honor of International Women’s Day, PornHub released a study focused on women’s watching habits.
The report was published on PornHub’s Insights landing page and gave a dissected look at how women interact with the porn they find online.
Of the data compiled, most notably was the fact that since 2014 women have consistently watched more porn on their smartphones than men have. The difference has been about 10%, with February 2017’s number being 11% — 80% of female traffic versus 69% for men.
“We can still see however, that regardless of the age group, women are always proportionately more likely to be using mobile devices,” explains the PornHub report.
Women between the ages of 18-33 were found to have the largest age contribution to the ‘smartphone use for porn watching by women’ category.
The PornHub report also worked to emphasize just how much their traffic can be impacted by whether women do or do not watch.
On the day of the Women’s March, for instance, PornHub recorded lower than average traffic, especially coming out of Washington, D.C., New York City and Los Angeles. In Washington D.C. where a recorded 500,000 to 680,000 number of people attended the Women’s March, PornHub’s traffic dropped by a high of -19% at 2pm.
Overall the site’s traffic dropped by -8.2% at one point on January 21st; women account for over 26% of PornHub’s worldwide visitors.
Women’s overt relationship with porn has oftentimes been a secretive, less talked about topic than the empowered conversations that relate to men and their viewing habits. PornHub’s study shows just how the trends are playing to a more balanced reality and empowered notion of female sexuality.
