What I Learned at New York’s Sexual Health Expo

What I Learned at New York’s Sexual Health Expo

This weekend I got the chance to go to the Sexual Health Expo NY, an expo put on by sexual health organization, SHE Media.

There were speakers and sex education workshops and all of the best up and coming sexual health products. In case you didn’t get a chance to go to this wonderful expo here are the highlights from this year:

Best New Discovery

The best new company I discovered, was completely unexpected. Tucked between copper dildos and a claw machine filled with vibrators was a small company, J Caress Studio. J Caress makes LGBTQ greeting cards, art prints, and custom portraits. The company was started by a married lesbian couple who received the same four lesbian cards from almost every guest at their wedding. Unsatisfied with the lack of choices, Caroline and Jessica Kaplan decided to create their own. My favorite of their cards is the “In Memorium” line, which depicts TV lesbian couples who have (all too frequently) been killed off (Clexa forever, amirite?).

Best Affordable Toy

While there were some incredible toys from WeVibe and Sola, it can be hard to find vibrators for under $100. OVO Lifestyle Toys, one of the sponsors of the expo, has great affordable options like their W1 bullet vibrator ($16 on Amazon) and A1 vibrating ring ($33 on Amazon). OVO definitely won out when it comes to affordable, body safe toys!

Best Splurge Toy

If you’re looking to splurge (and I mean over $1000 splurge), the Sybian Customized Package is  pretty incredible. The toy itself is a mountable stool with many different attachment options. The attachments look like dildos and are attached to a vibrator on top of the stool. Basically, it is a vibrating, penetrating, mountable toy. The packages are completely customizable and come in different textures, colors, and sizes. So if you’re looking to really invest, the Sybian is for you.

Best Lube

Hands down the best lube at the expo was JO’s Agape. Agape is designed specifically to mimic women’s natural lubrication. It is water-based (so safe for toys), lasts a relatively long time, and was incredibly smooth to the touch. As an added bonus, it’s smooth enough to act as lotion just in case you pour too much! Honorable mention goes to the JO H2O Flavored lube in Strawberry Kiss because it has no added sugar and tasted like strawberry jam.

Best Organization

I love the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health (CSPH). They do incredible work, providing inclusive, consent-based sexual health therapy and education to people across the country. Based out of the Pawtucket, RI, the Center’s mission is to reduce sexual shame, challenge misinformation, and advance the field of sexuality. They offer trainings, workshops, sex therapy, and an endless list of resources. They also have a great internship for students.

And finally I have to give a special honorable mention shout out to Tenga for having a pro-masturbation GIF booth and also to Chakrubs for making the most beautiful crystal dildos you ever did see.
