This Account Tweets the Sexist Ways Female Characters Are Introduced in Scripts

Los Angeles based producer Ross Putman created an account on Twitter called @femscriptintros in which he tweets all the sexist ways female characters have been introduced in scripts he has read.

The account has already gained over 45,000 followers in the span of two days. Putman included a disclaimer stating that he has changed all the character names to “Jane” and offered an apology to any screenwriters whose work he may have quoted.

Putman’s account highlights how in Hollywood, a woman’s beauty is put above anything else. Each of the character introductions he has tweeted state only two things about the woman: what she is doing and how she looks while doing it. Many of the scripts tweeted also show ageism, suggesting that while a 30+ character once was beautiful, she has been worn, and is therefore no longer as perfect as the 20-year-old character.

Putman will continue to update the Twitter as he finds more material, while women in Hollywood continue to fight for equality and respect in the industry.
