A new study has found a correlation between a man’s fitness routine and his sex drive.
For heterosexual couples, a richer sex life may include asking a question that is oftentimes not asked of men — how much do you exercise and would you be willing to cut back?
A study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise outlined how after studying a group of willing men the researchers found that men who incorporated an intense workout schedule into their lifestyles were more likely to report having low libidos.
“Dr. Hackney speculates that both physical fatigue and lower testosterone levels after exhausting exercise likely play a role,” states the New York Times.
The study itself focused on 1,100 adult men who had a history of being physically active or participating in training and competitions, according to the New York Times.
These men were given a questionnaire that focused on their sex drive and the level of exercise they identify with. The researchers found that the men who reported light to moderate exercise levels were more likely to also report having a higher sex drive than those who identified with more intense workouts.
This finding is especially relevant for heterosexual couples who are looking to conceive.
According to the New York Times, the researchers are clear that this is the first step to a longer research process as many questions remained unanswered, like at what point in an exercise routine a man’s libido begins to decrease.
