Are Women Actually Buying Addyi, the ‘Female Viagra’?

The new drug, Addyi, a libido-boosting pill for women was officially released last year in October, with the hopes of an onslaught of prescriptions and happy patients.

In 1998, Viagra’s first month on the market weighed in at half of a million prescriptions and for Addyi, in the first few weeks, only 227 prescriptions were filled.

In addition to the lack of interest, the prescriptions that are filled leave women scratching their heads with it’s overwhelming lack of change in libido. According to the patients, they experience, half of one satisfying sexual encounter a month,” while taking the drug. While we aren’t exactly sure what “one half” of a sexual encounter may include quite yet, it doesn’t sound incredibly hopeful.
